In science, Ms. Davis's class enjoyed learning about food chains by playing card games. They also researched an animal and created animal bio poems.
In math, we also played games to practice reading, writing, comparing, and rounding decimals.

In Mrs. Allgood's 5th grade classes, students created and shared math games with their classmates. Students are learning about the materials necessary to grow plants. They are currently waiting for their hydroponics plants to sprout and grow.

In Mrs. Light's math classes, we are learning to multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals by powers of 10 (such as 10, 100 and 1000). We not only practice solving these types of problems, we also practice explaining to others how we arrived at the answer and why our answer is the correct one. Most students learn the steps to solve these types of problems quickly, but have a hard time explaining the "how" and "why" of it. We spend a lot of time explaining the "how" and "why" in our math classrooms.
For almost two weeks, in Mrs. Redman's Language Arts enrichment class, students researched "Should individuals drink bottled water or tap water?" and then discussed their findings using a Socratic discussion. We presented, in two groups, this form of discussion and they really enjoyed themselves. When one group presented, the other group had to listen and figure out what they could say, when it was their turn, based on the discussion and their research. This discussion allowed them to hear other students' thoughts and debate using discussion phrases to help the conversation move along while respecting others' opinions. The students then responded to a google form asking for feedback about the discussion. They were asked what they liked, what they would do differently, and would enjoy doing it again? The students responded with almost 70% interested in doing this type of discussion again.

Mrs. Vaden's 5th Grade Social Studies Classes studied causes of the American Revolution, which included Great Britain's "Taxation of the Colonies Without Representation".One favorite activity was the Boston Tea Party. Students read both British and Colonists accounts of the incident, gathering information from a variety of resources. Loyalists and Patriots alike shared "tea and biscuits," concluding with the development of opinion pieces of the historic incident.

Mr. Belew's Moby Max Wall of Fame Members for Week One. A Team members have an "A" average for the week. Homework Heroes spent more than 30 minutes at home working independently on Moby Max Math.
