Good afternoon Badger community,
As we end Day 4 of our snow break, I want to update you on the district’s plans. Today, we had good news and bad news. The good news is that we didn't get any freezing rain, the bad news is that the sun did not come out. Of course, this did not help the melting on rural routes and neighborhood roads. The issue we are having is that the northern part of the district is still highly covered. We considered a 10:00 am start and/or running snow routes. However, considering the temperature will still be very low tomorrow, we do not anticipate any change before 10:00 am. Snow routes are not possible because we have several routes that we would not be able to run at all.
With all of that being said, there will be no school tomorrow, Friday, January 19th.
Today was much closer than we have been on trying to return to school, but ultimately the concern for everyone’s safety must outweigh all other inconveniences. I know that all of us want to get our kids back in school. The good news is there is no precipitation in the forecast for this weekend. It is going to be very cold, but there is lots of sunshine in the forecast that should help with the melting.
I would like to thank Mr. Vaudie McAfee and Mr. Ryan Marshall for inspecting the roads all week with me. Their only focus is on the safety of our students and staff. I want to thank each of you for your understanding and flexibility. "This too shall pass." Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone next week.

Buenas tardes comunidad Badger,

Good afternoon Badger community,
As of 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, the temperature remains only slightly above freezing. The expected low tonight is in the low 20s, and any melted ice from this afternoon is likely to refreeze overnight. Add to that the chance of freezing precipitation on Thursday morning.
While our main roads are mostly clear, the challenge lies in the side streets, rural roads, and neighborhoods that remain largely covered in snow and ice. Our bus routes cover over 1,500 miles each day on these roads. We also need to think about the approximately 1,500 students who walk to bus stops and the fact that our teenage students would be driving in potentially hazardous road conditions.
Taking all of these factors into account, our district will be closed on Thursday, January 18th. I am eager to resume our normal schedule, and I am sure you are, as well. However, staff and student safety must remain our top priority.
It is our hope that temperatures will rise significantly above freezing on Thursday and that there will be no additional winter precipitation. The icepack on side streets and rural roads will take time to disappear, especially those shaded by trees and lacking direct sunshine. We will hope for the best but be prepared for the possibility of closure or delay on Friday.
Thank you for your understanding. Please continue to stay safe, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Buenas tardes comunidad Badger,

Last week, all five of our schools and the district were presented with their Purple Star banners. This designation is awarded to schools and districts who go above and beyond for military families! Thank you to all who made these awards possible. #BPRD

Good morning Badger community,
Please see this update on the possibility of reopening school on Thursday, January 18th. Our maintenance crew is currently working to clear parking lots and sidewalks, and will continue to do so all day. Our hope is that the sunshine and higher temperatures will help with melting today. School personnel will be checking roads until 4 PM, at which time a decision will be made about tomorrow. Remember, even though some of the main roads have thawed, we have a large district with many rural routes. We will check all routes to determine if they are safe to travel. BSD very much wants to have everyone back on campus, but we will always value everyone’s safety as the number one priority. Thank you for your understanding.

There will be a District Wellness Committee Meeting next Thursday, January 18th at 2 pm in the High School North Cafeteria. This meeting is open to the public! #BPRD

With the potential for winter weather coming in this weekend, we want to ensure all stakeholders are informed of procedures in the event of inclement weather. According to the current forecast, there is a chance of snow on Sunday, January 14th, and Monday, January 15th. As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, January 15th, due to the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr Day.
In the event of accumulation, no decision regarding school on Tuesday, January 16th, will be made until Monday, January 15th at the earliest. Along with monitoring the condition of roads, we will also need to check heaters and water systems to ensure everything is in proper working order when we return to school. Additionally, if there is any accumulation, we will need to de-ice the campus.
All school closures will be communicated via call, text message, social media, district app, and local news media outlets (Channels 4, 7, 11, and 16).
Please remember that we do NOT have an Alternate Method of Instruction (AMI) this year. Therefore, any days missed due to inclement weather will need to be made up. Our current scheduled make up days are Friday, February 16th and Monday, February 19th. Any further inclement weather days would have to be made up after the last day of school (Friday, May 24th.)
The SAFETY of our students and staff remains the top priority in the district's decisions on whether to operate schools or not. We will make every effort to keep our school community informed, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these unpredictable weather conditions.
Thank you for your support! #BPRD

Due to the potential for flooding this afternoon, parents will need to be aware of road conditions in your area if your student is a bus rider. It is possible that flood routes will be necessary in certain locations. If your road has potential flooding, please refer to the following flood routes and be prepared to pick your student(s) up at their designated pick up point. Thank you for your understanding.

We now have a new way for you to submit documentation for your students’ absences from school!
While maintaining good attendance is crucial, we understand that absences are sometimes unavoidable. When your student must miss due to an approved excused absence, you may submit documentation (i.e. doctor’s notes) via the following Google Form. If submitting from your phone, simply take a photo of the document and upload it into the form. You also have the option to scan the document and upload it via computer. Please read and be aware of your school’s handbook policy on attendance and what constitutes an excused absence (linked below). We hope this will help streamline our absence documentation process and provide an easier way for you to submit paperwork without having to come to the school. Thank you for your cooperation!
