Happy Birthday to BEC kindergarten teacher, Ms. Whitford!
REMINDER:
Kindergarten students will enjoy BEC Celebration Day on Monday, May 20th and First Grade students will enjoy BEC Celebration Day on Tuesday, May 21st. We have rented Bounce Houses from Sky High Inflatables, LLC. Students will enjoy dry slides/bounce houses, wet slides/bounce houses, games, a dance party, and concession stand. If you have any questions or concerns about your child participating in any of these activities, please contact your child's teacher.
Parents must complete the permission slip and return it to their child's teacher. Parents are welcome to attend and enjoy the day with their child. We ask that siblings not attend and if a sibling does attend, he/she will not be allowed to participate in the activities. Parking will be available on the back parking lot/East side of the building. Parking will be limited. Parents attending must check-in through the front office to receive a Hall/Visitor Badge. The badge must be worn at all times and must be visible to school staff. Parents may begin checking in at 7:45 and will be able to join their child at 8:50. All student checkouts must be made through the front office.
For Celebration Day, students need to wear comfortable clothing for all of the activities. Students will need to bring swimwear or shorts, t-shirt, and a towel for the wet slides/bounce houses. You may also send sunscreen with your child. A concession stand will be available for students to purchase snack items on this fun day, you may send money in a plastic baggie labeled with your child's name on it.
*Parents will need to bring their own lunch. The cafeteria will only be providing lunch to students.

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month! We use this time to highlight Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and to raise awareness of hearing and speech disorders. At least 46 million Americans have been diagnosed with a communication and/or hearing disorder. SLPs help students in the following ways: production of speech sounds, spoken or written language, stuttering, cognition, social communication, vocal quality, Augmentative and alternative communication, feeding and swallowing, along with a host of other areas! We would like to take the month to highlight the fantastic Speech-Language Pathologists and SLP-Assistants that help serve our students at BEC. Sawyer Hall, from Mrs. Stigler’s class, received an award for 3rd place for his owl drawing in the AR Wildlife Art Competition. The art is currently on display at the state capitol. Great job, Sawyer! We are proud of you!

We have only 11 yearbooks left that can be bought and sent home. They are $38.00 per yearbook and you can send cash or check with the student. You may also come by the office during school hours. It will be first come first serve on year books so it best to act quickly.

National PE & Sport Week is a celebration of the importance of physical education and health education, in addition to kicking off National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Health and physical education is a critical component of a well-rounded education. It’s where students learn:
Fundamental motor skills needed to participate in physical activity, which is vital at all stages of life;
Critical personal and social skills needed to help manage daily tasks and challenges; and important character values such as resilience, fairness and respect.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all of our teachers and staff! We have a full week of fun and treats planned. Today we would like to thank Forte's Wings and Catfish and Maximum Excavation for a great lunch. Also, thank you to Merle Norman for gift certificates for all of our staff!
We have learned all about ocean animals this week. We’ve studied about sharks, whales, jellyfish, and lots of other creatures. We’ve learned about blubber and did an experiment to learn how whales stay warm.

Start your summer break early! Friday, May 24th is the last day of school. Students who miss 5 or fewer days and have no office refferals will get Thurday, May 23rd and Friday, May 24th off excused. Also, any student that has missed 5 days or less will get Friday, May 24th off excused. Letters will be sent home for qualifing students.
