The Beebe High School Chapter of the National Honors Society convened at the 9-10 Cafeteria for the 2015-2016 Induction Ceremony at 7:00pm. Those in attendance included the chapter advisor Casey Woods, returning members and inductees, as well as parents and other guests.
The event was initiated by Mrs. Casey Woods as she welcomed those present to the ceremony and explained the nomination and application process (Students in grades 10-12 who have achieved a 3.25 GPA are invited to apply for membership. Students must write an essay for their application. Students elected to NHS are chosen by the NHS committee of Beebe High School Faculty). She then recognized returning members of the chapter and called forth those who were selected for a leadership position.
Members called forth as officers to have a role in the ceremony included:
Garret Gardenhire and Sydnye Shuttleworth (Co-presidents)
Victoria Tarkington (vice president)
Josh Salman and Shelbey Winningham (Secretaries)
Alexis Truesdail (Treasurer)
Others were solely recognized as leadership: Haley Owens (Community Service), Delaney Daniel and Sydney Smith (Badger Pantry coordinators), Tori Lovelady (senior class rep), Lindsey Haller (junior class rep), and Colton Bowman (sophomore class rep)
Mrs. Casey Woods then invited each officer position to remind those new members of the four essential characteristics of NHS: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. A reflection on each characteristic was given while the officers lit the corresponding candle from the NHS flame, and placed it in the candelabra. After reflecting upon the essential characteristics, all members to be inducted were invited to stand and raise their right hand as they read the NHS pledge. Each new member was called forth to sign their name in the official registry of the BHS National Honor Society, receive the membership certificate and official lapel pin from advisor Casey Woods. Once each member present was officially inducted, Mrs. Casey Woods invited those in attendance to congratulate the official 2015-2016 National Honor Society Chapter of Beebe High School.
The meeting was concluded with a small reception afterward with refreshments.
Brittany Potts was not in attendance, but is scheduled to be inducted at a later date.
