In Mrs. Crow's Literacy class, we just finished up writing our first personal reflective narrative. The topic was writing on a first experience. Last week while some students were at space camp, we did a research project regarding space topics. Students performed research and then chose to either make a poster or write a paper about their topic. These were presented to the class after finished. This week we started a class read aloud called Home of the Brave, by Katherine Applegate. It is about an immigrant boy from Africa named Kek. He is learning all about American ways and adjusting to his new life in the United States. We will be discussing with this unit how to determine a theme of a book, picking out themes from their own independent books, and having a vocabulary study.
