We now have a few more pairs of eclipse glasses for $2. If interested come to Central Office. First come, first served.
We have about 200 extra solar glasses if anyone needs them, $2.00 a pair. You can purchase these at Central Office before 10:00 tomorrow. First come first served.
On Monday, August 21, 2017, the moon’s shadow will block the sun from view and a solar eclipse will occur. In Beebe, the partial eclipse will begin in Beebe at 11:48 a.m. and end at 2:46 p.m. With safety as our number one priority, during this time we will need to be very careful and make sure students and staff members do not look directly at the sun without protected eyes. According to NASA, “It is one of the most stunning sights that can ever be seen in the sky, and the opportunity to do so only emerges rarely. However, it is also highly dangerous, and viewing it incorrectly can damage eyes. Anyone looking to observe the eclipse must not do so directly. Instead, they must use eclipse glasses. Looking directly at the sun, during the eclipse, can be dangerous to retinas, but it is safe to view the eclipse with special glasses. The District has ordered an adequate number of glasses for students in grades 4-12. Students in grades Prek-3 will watch the eclipse on live stream, but stay inside. Parents of students in these grades, who want their child to view the eclipse, are encouraged to come check out their child. In addition, if the child checks out with the parent to view the eclipse, it will be counted as an excused absence. We ask that parents checking out a child come no later than 11:30 a.m. Any child who views the eclipse at school will need written permission from parents. A high school student who wishes to look at the eclipse with eclipse glasses, must return a permission slip from parents and also sign a form acknowledging the danger of looking directly at the sun with unprotected eyes. All students will stay in one building and no transitioning between buildings will take place during the three-hour time span. If a student does not have written permission from a parent, he/she will not be allowed to go outside and view the eclipse through the special glasses. Each building will be sending permission slips and developing special schedules that will reduce the amount of time outside. All students will have the opportunity to view the live stream of the eclipse, and since it should end in Beebe at 2:46, we will resume our regular schedule at that time and buses will run as usual.
706 school buses were passed illegally last year. Share this video so everyone knows bus safety! youtu.be/68pQ1UwpEf0 #2017FlashingRed
Want more information about teaching your child to set goals? Here is a great article: https://goo.gl/5fsp57
Starting school is always an exciting time for Arkansas' students and their families. While academic achievement is always a top priority, it is just as important to be mindful of student safety in and around school buses. The Arkansas Department of Education and Arkansas Association of Pupil Transportation are proud to launch the Flashing Red. Kids Ahead. school bus safety campaign. The three-week campaign, which is in its fifth year, is from August 7 to August 25; however, school bus safety is a priority year-round. Educators, parents, school bus drivers and community leaders throughout the Natural State are encouraged to remind Arkansas motorists to obey all traffic laws whenever they are near a school bus. Also, motorists are reminded that it is illegal to pass a stopped school bus whenever its red lights are flashing, as students are present. The fines, penalties and punishment for anyone found guilty of illegally passing a stopped school bus were increased dramatically by Act 2128 of 2005, also known as Isaac’s Law. Remember: Flashing Red. Kids Ahead. #2017FlashingRed

Ms. Annita had a nice crowd at Summer Literacy Camp on Monday. They read Scaredy Squirrel. All of these students have been bringing their books back to the bookmobile regularly and have UPGRADED to our canvas book bags. Congrats! We look forward to seeing our patrons again and again and again this summer! Keep reading!!! For more photos...visit our bookmobile BLOG at http://beebebadgerbookmobile.weebly.com .
The rain has deterred the bookmobile this week, but, hopefully it hasn't deterred our readers. This is a challenge for our TEACHER readers...take a photo of some books you've read this summer OR the book you are reading right now...POST your photo in the comments below. Our students are inspiring us...now, let us inspire them. If you've read something excellent...post a recommendation, as well. The photo in this post is Dr. Calvert's stack of books read, so far, this summer. Most enjoyed were The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (adults), The Reading Makeover (professional) and Just Jake: Camp Wild Survival (kids, available at Goff Library). The next book on my list is Completely Clementine (borrowed from the bookmobile).
Due to the weather forecast the Badger Bookmobile will not be running today, July 5th.

Parents, The safety of your child is our number one concern. With severe conditions possible today, April 26th, we are monitoring the weather very closely. In 2015 the Beebe School District began an intensive focus on literacy. One of the District’s goals is to share the literacy experience with children sooner. The White County Literacy Council, and several districts in the county, including Beebe, has joined together and would like to launch Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The goal of this program is to ensure that every child, birth to age five, has the opportunity to receive a personal set of books, one delivered monthly to his/her home mailbox, prior to entering school. Since literacy, or the lack of literacy skills, eventually impacts our community, we are asking for community partners to join us in this endeavor. Sponsorship for one child to receive a book each month is $25 a year; five children, $125; and ten children, $250 …and so on. We want to invite you to join us, as a business or individual in our community, in supporting this effort. The idea is to provide early intervention and prevent a child from ever getting behind. Our partners in this important program will be acknowledged in a variety of ways. We will place the names of partners who support us with $100 or more on the electronic sign. We will list all partners on the District’s web site and in the newspaper. I hope you will join us in this very important effort to show how the community of Beebe bands together to instill the love of reading in our children. Please feel free to contact Dr. Belinda Shook, Ms. Annita Blauser or Ms. Nona Richey at 501-882-5463 with any questions. As always, the Beebe School District is extremely appreciative of the support we receive from our community.
Don't forget...No school on Monday, February 20th!

Friday's featured Beebe School Board member is Ms. Brenda McKown. Ms. McKown, Past-president of the Beebe School Board, has served on the Board 20+ years. As former president of the McRae School Board, Ms. McKown was instrumental in the annexation of the McRae School District. She led the combining of the two districts with poise and professionalism. She now serves as Past-President of the Arkansas School Boards Association and is completing those duties. Utilizing her years of training and experience, she has led many board meetings at both the local and state levels. Ms. McKown’s profound understanding of the District makes her an expert school board member.
Today we are recognizing Dr. Kathy Pillow-Price who is completing her first year on the Beebe School Board, after being elected in September, 2016. Dr. Pillow-Price is a former educator, both in public education and post-secondary education, and has fulfilled duties as an instructor and an administrator. Acting as a strong advocate for children, she is currently employed as the Executive Director of the Arkansas Home Visiting Program, stationed at Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pillow-Price is married to Garrick Price, a former Beebe High School graduate, and together, they have three children: Kaitlin Pitts, Jake Pitts and Kara Price. Kara the youngest, attends Beebe Junior High. Dr. Pillow-Price is an expert in the field of education and serves on various state committees and commissioner. She is currently serving her second term on the Arkansas Early Childhood Commission and the Arkansas governor’s Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education.
Today's featured Beebe School Board member is Ms. Janet Hines. Ms. Hines, Beebe School Board Secretary and Disbursing Officer, is serving her second round as a school board member, with a total of ten years. She was on the Beebe School Board when the Beebe/ McRae annexation took place. Ms. Hines is a very compassionate individual who is concerned with the whole child. The Badger Food Pantry developed from an idea Ms. Hines presented to the board. She is a lifelong Beebe area resident who graduated from the Beebe School District and is married to Bo Hines, also from Beebe. Ms. Hines’ older children progressed through the district several years ago, and now, her three youngest children are attending Beebe. Ms. Hines is a caring individual who looks for ways to promote and plan for the District’s future growth. Her common sense and business background definitely provide good direction and stability for the future.

Continuing our recognition of our Beebe School Board members with Mr. Harold Davis. Mr. Harold Davis has fourteen years on the school board and has been extremely involved in the growth of the district. Mr. Davis is Vice President of the Board. As a former McRae School Board Member, Mr. Davis played a large part in the district’s annexation. With a business and medical background, Mr. Davis is often able to give various perspectives with decisions and purchases. He is also very technology minded and thinks progressively toward the District’s vision. Having three children attend the District has given him a well-rounded, district-level perspective from pre-k – twelfth grade. He is always interested in progress, and especially academic success by providing more opportunities for Beebe students.
During the month of January we will be featuring our Beebe School Board members for School Board Member Recognition Month. Mr. Clay Goff is serving in his fourth year as a Beebe School Board member and is the current President of the Board. Mr. Goff’s financial expertise and real estate expertise are beneficial to the operation of the Beebe School Board, but “people skills” is his specialty. He is able to successfully communicate with people from all walks of life and is a great role model. He brings his special talents to enhance serving on the board, which benefit the District. As a Beebe School District graduate, with children who attend the District, he has a total understanding and is keenly aware of the District’s future needs. The Beebe School District provides an educational setting that gives every student an equal opportunity for learning. Our desire is to ensure no homeless student is denied this opportunity because of unfortunate circumstances resulting in the family having lost their permanent residence. Homeless children are those who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence, including those who share housing due to loss of housing or economic hardship or similar reasons. This could include students living in motels/hotels, at campgrounds, in cars, in parks, in abandoned buildings, or other similar settings. If a situation of homelessness should arise with you or someone you know, the family should contact their child’s school counselor, or contact Theresa Gilliam, Homeless Liaison, at (501) 882-5463. The school will make every effort to ensure the affected children receive the educational services according to the Education Rights of Homeless Students under the McKinney-Vento Act. The Arkansas Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (AR-GLR) was launched in 2011 by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation to move the needle on education outcomes in Arkansas by focusing on third grade reading proficiency. AR-GLR is managed in partnership with Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, the Arkansas Community Foundation, and the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. AR-GLR is part of a growing movement led 4 FULL SPEED AHEAD: MOVING THE NEEDLE ON GRADE-LEVEL READING IN ARKANSAS by the national Campaign for Grade-Level Reading that includes over 200 communities in 42 states. AR-GLR is a collaborative effort of over 25 organizations that believe the only way we can make progress on grade-level reading is to work collectively and in partnership with families, educators, policymakers, and business leaders around the state. Beebe Schools is doing its part with a new Summer Reading Program which includes the Beebe Bookmobile. Be watching for more information and links to the Beebe Summer Reading Program throughout the summer. Parents and families, here are some things you can do: • Talk, read, and sing to your children from birth, building on what we know about early brain development and helping them develop strong vocabularies • Bring more books into your home by enrolling your children in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library • Make sure children are in school every day, except when they are sick, even in pre-k and kindergarten, when the foundations of reading are being taught • Access free and affordable resources such as public library summer reading programs to keep children reading over the summer – AND the Badger Bookmobile! Following is a link to the Badger Bookmobile schedule. Let’s keep our students reading over the summer! http://bit.ly/1Wd3FJL

The lesson was called “Asteroid Disasteroid.” Mrs. Clevenger also had the lab set up in her class, so the students could experience it live. It addressed 4th grade standards related to speed and collision. Mrs. Clevenger's class was the very first to experience the session.
